This time, we're spotlighting one of our amazing school teachers.</p><p>Here's why Nikole decided to become a teacher, what she enjoys most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what advice she has for teachers just starting their careers.</p><h3>Why did you become a teacher?</h3><p>I became a teacher to be a direct positive influence to a population of children located in the most underserved community in Las Vegas. The Historic Westside is known for having scholars with behavior, attendance, academic and familial challenges that often times prevent them from reaching their highest potential. My love for education, commitment to the community, and my access to resources allows me to bring a unique skillset in an effort to promote the pursuit of higher learning.</p><h3>What do you like about working through Cross Country Education (CCE)?</h3><p>I really enjoy the continued support that I have received since becoming a member of the team. Every question and/or concern has been answered or rectified in a timely manner. Often times the role of a teacher is a tireless and thankless occupation, but I have felt appreciated and valued from my initial interview until current day. Lastly, the random check-ins are super appreciated and necessary because they allow you to feel like a human being and not a contract. This is the best experience I have had in the last 15 years in the field of education.</p><h3>What have you liked about working at the schools with CCE?</h3><p>I really like the opportunities that I have been afforded and the welcoming of my skillset. I am currently the official announcer for the Nevada State Champion Varsity Girls Basketball Team as well as the newest member of the Elementary Coaching Staff. I have set on two committees campus-wide and secured an interview with Channel 3 News and a radio show to discuss my experience as a first year teacher at Democracy Prep and to promote the Black History Month Program. The team of educators that surround me have welcomed me with open arms constantly offering best practices for the classroom. It is truly a family atmosphere that respects and encourages the uniqueness that every educator envisions.</p><h3>What advice would you give someone starting as a school teacher?</h3><p>I would encourage a new hire to remain authentic to who they are and remember that you chose this profession to make a difference.
