  CRNAs who work as locum tenens contractors have the potential to earn even
  more than their salaried counterparts. Locum tenens CRNAs are usually
  considered 1099 independent contractors rather than W-2 employees. Because
  they work for themselves, locum tenens CRNAs forego certain benefits of being
  an employee, but in return, they can earn a higher per-hour rate, as much as
  25%, depending on their assignment.
